Don't Hide from God; Look to His Son

Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.
(Jeremiah 23:23-24)
There is a kitten somewhere outside of my door. I can hear it calling. However, when I go out to look for it it becomes quiet and hides. It doesn't realize that I could help it; it is afraid of me. And so we act towards God sometimes.

And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
(Genesis 3:8-10)

Adam and Eve were afraid as a result of their sin. But God was the only one who could help them. We don't fear God until we undertand that we are guilty under His law. We only know that we are missing something, we are lonely, empty. But if we realize that there is a true God, and we realize that we are not right with Him through His law; we often try to find our own way to reconcilliation with God.

And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.
(Leviticus 10:1-2)

All ways, except His way, leads to death. Sure, (for example) when the priest in the Catholic Church puts the eucharist in the montrance and sets it in place for "adoration" he usually isn't consumed by the righteous fire of God; but he is in peril.

But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
(Galatians 1:8-9)

And what is this gospel that Paul and the other apostles preached?

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
(Galatians 2:16-21)

We can't hide from God. We can't face Him on our own terms or merit. We need only accept that Jesus, the Christ, lived a sinless life; gave himself once as a sacrifice for all of our sins; and rose from the dead, sealing our promise of eternal life through him. Then we need no longer hide, but we may boldly come before God for mercy and aid.

p.s. That kitten I mentioned at the beginning, was rescued and has a home where she will be taken care of.

A great perspective, Bryan. All too often we do try to hide from God, not knowing that he is seeking us out of love. Thanks.
