Thought Life (Music)
But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust [desire], and enticed. Then when lust [desire] hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."Will you die because you listen to secular music on the radio?"
James 1:14-15 KJV
Yes.
But not directly (unless there is an electrical short in the radio). You see, the things that we put into our brains, become the things in our hearts. If all you listen to is music that espouses the joy of sin and ignores the consequences, then it becomes easier to allow yourself to do those things. Why not instead tune into music that espouses ideals that you actually believe in?
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. That's the kind of music that I want to have floating around in my head! So, switch that radio station to the "real rock alternative", your local Christian music station of whatever style that you prefer (check out different styles, you might find that you like them). Of course, if you have enough time, you can tune into teachings on the local Christian talk stations as well. And, on the off chance that there are no "good" Christian stations in your area, one can play tapes or CD's of Christian music.
Colossians 3:16 KJV
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8 KJV

i didn't grow up in a church where we sang many hymns, except at Christmas...it's been great to learn and listen to great hymns via groups like Indelible Grace...they take hymns that have been forgotten and making them known to a new generation with rockin' good music...though the music doesn't distract from the words....love the doctrine and bible truth that pervades the songwriters of the past...not to mention that by singing hymns are a great way to connect with the hearts of passionate Christians of the past...
www.igracemusic.com is the website if you were interested...
ps...i think they were in your neck of the woods doing concerts not too long ago....
Thanks for the link. I'll have to check them out.
There are many of the old hymns that are truly awesome. One of the things we sometimes forget here is that they were once radical new songs. There are some excellent new songs out there as well as the old classics which, as you state, are being revived with modern instrumentation and arrangement.
