The Tap Root of my Soul

The Lord Jesus is the tap root of my soul.

These past few months have been a difficult spiritual drought for me. I haven't been in the Scriptures as I should have. I haven't attended church, or gathered with my fellow saints as I should have. I haven't spoken to the Lord in prayer with any consistency, or with the passion that I should have.

And like a tree in a drought, though the fruit is not what it would have been in a good season, and the leaves have curled up in the scorching heat of the world, my core is still strong. The roots of fellowship, prayer, and Scripture remain ready to soak up the living water; because my tap root is the Lord and he is the source that never fails. Even when I do.
Thus says the LORD: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD. For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited.

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.
(Jeremiah 17:5-8 NKJV)
